Silicon Labs President and CEO Matt Johnson has been chosen Chair of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) Board of Directors, and Rich Templeton, Chairman, President, and CEO of Texas Instruments, has been elected Vice Chair, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has announced recently. By revenue, SIA accounts for approximately two-thirds of non-U.S. chip companies as well as 99% of the U.S. semiconductor sector.

It is a pleasure to welcome Matt Johnson of Silicon Labs and Rich Templeton of Texas Instruments as our new leadership team for the year ahead, said John Neuffer, SIA President and CEO, "following a landmark year for our industry in 2022 under the leadership of Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon as SIA Chair." "Matt is an excellent advocate for our interests in Washington and a strong industry leader. Rich has a long history of supporting governmental initiatives that foster development and innovation, making him a well-respected voice in our sector. They will work well together as the SIA Board of Directors' leaders in 2023.

Johnson oversaw Silicon Labs' Internet of Things (IoT) business unit's rapid expansion and position as the industry leader prior to taking the helm as CEO. Since smart, connected gadgets are revolutionising industries, boosting economies, and enhancing people's lives and the environment, Silicon Labs is now entirely committed to developing the technology solutions that will enable them. Matt had executive positions at NXP, Freescale, and Fairchild Semiconductor prior to joining Silicon Labs. Matt is committed to fostering a positive workplace culture, creating cutting-edge products, and achieving operational excellence. He graduated with a B.S. in electrical engineering technology from the University of Maine, and he also attended executive education at Stanford University and Harvard Business School.

"Our attention now turns to implementing this new law and advancing other crucial government policies that will continue to strengthen the entire semiconductor ecosystem," said Johnson. "Following the historic enactment of the CHIPS and Science Act to strengthen domestic semiconductor production and innovation in 2022. "The business executives on the SIA Board are eager to advance our interests in Washington and other capitals across the world, and I look forward to serving as the SIA Chair in 2023 to assist lead that work," said the candidate.

In May 2004, Templeton was named President and CEO, and in April 2008, he was named Chairman of the Board. Templeton served as the company's chief operating officer from April 2000 to April 2004. From June 1996 to April 2004, he served as the company's Executive Vice President and the President of TI's semiconductor division. In order to better support TI clients, Templeton has increased the size of the sales and applications engineering team while maintaining the company's key investments in R&D and manufacturing. With improved technology and product positions in each of its key industries, TI has prospered under his leadership. Templeton joined the business in 1980 after graduating from Union College in New York with a B.S. in electrical engineering.

It is a privilege to hold the position of SIA Vice Chair during this active and important period for our industry, said Templeton. "Semiconductors are crucial to the economy, security, and innovation leadership of the United States. I'm looking forward to collaborating with my SIA coworkers to advance projects that will benefit our nation and the semiconductor industry.
