On September 6, 2023, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported that global semiconductor industry sales for July 2023 reached $43.2 billion. This figure represents a 2.3% increase compared to the June 2023 sales of $42.2 billion. However, it is an 11.8% decrease compared to the July 2022 sales of $49.0 billion. These monthly sales numbers are compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization and are presented as a three-month moving average. SIA represents 99% of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and a significant portion of non-U.S. chip firms.

John Neuffer, the President and CEO of SIA, noted that the global semiconductor market has shown consistent month-to-month growth throughout the year, with July marking the fourth consecutive month of sales increase. While global sales are still below the levels of the previous year, the year-over-year decline in July was the smallest so far in 2023, which provides some optimism for the industry’s performance for the remainder of the year and beyond.

Regionally, month-to-month sales increased in the Americas by 6.3%, China by 2.6%, Europe by 0.5%, and Asia Pacific/All Other by 0.3%. However, sales slightly decreased in Japan by -1.0%. In terms of year-over-year sales, Europe saw a positive growth of 5.9%, but Japan experienced a decline of -4.3%, the Americas -7.1%, Asia Pacific/All Other -16.2%, and China -18.7%.
