A report by the Semicon India Future Skills Talent Committee, established in August the previous year, has projected that India will require around 1.2 million skilled professionals in the semiconductor-related industries by 2032. This committee, comprising representatives from the semiconductor industry, academia, and the government, was formed to outline a strategic path for India to become a prominent hub for semiconductor talent.

The report also highlights the specific manpower needs in various segments of the semiconductor sector. Approximately 275,000 individuals will be needed in semiconductor chip design, 25,000 in semiconductor fabrication, and 29,000 in ATMP facilities over the next decade, spanning various educational levels from diplomas to PhDs. The required skills encompass a range of disciplines, including VLSI Design and Technology, Material Science, Applied Physics, Chemical Science, Process and Industrial Engineering.

To address this demand, the Indian government is taking a comprehensive “ecosystem approach” and places a strong emphasis on developing a globally competitive talent pool. Several skilling and academic initiatives have been initiated to enhance the capacities and capabilities of young Indians aspiring for careers in the electronics and semiconductor sector.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has introduced curricula for undergraduate, diploma, and minor degree programs in the semiconductor domain to align with the industry’s talent requirements. Additionally, the Semicon India Future Skills/Chip to Startup (C2S) program aims to produce 85,000 highly qualified professionals with global capabilities over the next five years.

Furthermore, the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM) has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Purdue University and the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru, as well as the US-based semiconductor equipment manufacturer Lam Research, for collaborations on research and development programs and workforce training.

The premier VLSI training facility in India, ICLabs.IN, is famous for turning out highly skilled VLSI experts. The university is renowned across the nation for its ability to provide the best VLSI training possible and to produce talented engineers who have succeeded in their careers. It’s time to consider a career in VLSI, and now is the perfect time to choose ICLabs.IN to do so.
